Google has given a new option to add custom fields to your products in the feeds which you supply your Google Merchant account with. This additional data can then be used inside your Google Adwords account for better optimization with your Google Shopping campaign.
The Google Shopping program, which used to be called Product Listing Ads has definitely went through some changes over the past couple years and these custom fields is just one example. Because of the new way to run your Google Shopping campaign, we highly recommend adding some type of data to these custom label fields that will help you sort through your product data at an AdWords level. This will help you bid more on products that tend to convert better, and less on the opposite.
Some examples of custom labels could be brand information, gender of products, items under $100, or many other ideas that will help make certain products stick together at the AdWords level.
Looking at the image above you will see the examples for different brands being used for the custom label. The different fields used were ‘brand a’ and ‘brand b’ with the custom fields and then bid on separately at the AdWords level.
We at TheSEMarket can help you with your Google Shopping campaigns and the setup of these custom labels for better account optimization. Don’t hesitate to give one of our specialists a call today to discuss your online marketing options.
