Google, for as long as I can remember, has always had some type of certification program for agencies and individuals which is now called the Google Partners program. This program is great because once you are certified, you are then eligible to show up in search results when people are looking for certified Google Agencies or Individuals.
To become certified there are a couple requirements which are pretty much having a MCC Adwords account which achieves a certain amount of 1 month and 3 month spend as well as passing a couple exams. As an individual you must pass 2 of the Adwords exams while there are about 4 to choose from. These Adwords exams are for general fundamentals, advanced search, advanced display and Google Shopping. There is also an Analytics exam which we would recommend doing.
A certified agency must have the required exams met by at least 2 people plus the MCC adwords account with so much managed spend. With an agency you can be both certified in Adwords as well as Analytics in which they give you links to your actual PDF certificates saying that you are Google certified.
One of the best features of becoming certified with Adwords is that you will then be able to grant promotional credits to new clients which go over a certain spend threshold. This is a great way to help you business grow because these promotion credits are usually worth about $100 of free advertising once the new client spends $25.
Bing Adcenter too has a certification program which is a bit smaller than the Adwords certification program. There is an exam to pass before you can become certified which is very similar to the Adwords one which tests your PPC knowledge well.
