One of the features in Google Analytics is the use of Event Tracking. This tracking is great for actions on your website which are not associated with a normal URL. Some of the most common events that are tracked are PDFs, Downloads, External Clicks, Social Buttons, etc.. These Events can also be setup as Goals in the Admin section of your Google Analytics account.
The code can be different if you are using old Classic Google Analytics or the newer Universal Analytics but both contain a handful of options for labeling your Event.
Lately we have been recommending 2 new hyperlinks to our clients which have Event Tracking on them for TEL phone number and MAILTO email addresses. We are finding that many people, mostly on mobile devices, are clicking the linked phone numbers to directly dial your company. So by setting up a TEL hyperlink with Event Tracking for your phone number on your website you would now have a new traceable goal for those trying to get in contact with your business.
Also, people have always used MAILTO email address on webpages which could be a second Event Tracked click that we are recommending be setup as a goal.
If you have any questions about these types of links or the setup of Event Tracking to make these clicks traceable and setup as goals, then don’t hesitate to use the quick contact us form on the right hand side of this post.
